Default Smackdown Slappings, 11/10

So King Booker's "Champion of Champions". Not in my book, he ain't. I'm
tired of heels living in delusional dreamworlds. Booker's promo took
too much time, such that it was a welcome relief when Teddy Long came
out. Booker has to face Batista one more time, at Survivor Series, but
has to put the title up first in our opening bout......

1. Booker def. Bobby Lashley. The funny part about this was JBL
claiming Long is a racist. Against his own people? Does Crazy Vinnie
know what the cast of idiots is doing? Does he care anymore? We've seen
better with these two. Much better. Booker cheats to win again, rolling
up Lashley and grabbing the tights. I am so sick of that ream being
used so often. Way too often, to tell you the truth.

30+ years ago, when I first started watching wrestling, they didn't use
leverage violations as much as they do now. Foreign objects were more
the standard heel ream of choice. Fred Blassie & Lou Albano got
involved in their men's matches pretty regularly, but the Grand Wizard
didn't, appearing to be too dignified to do anything of the sort. When
Albano took his bumps from vengeful faces, however, you couldn't help
but laugh, because he was reinventing himself as a bit of a buffoon
before it was fashionable.

Booker took up the 1st quarter of the show, and it would take a while
before we got to the next match. Meanwhile, Chris Benoit finally
catches up to Chavo & Vicki Guerrero. He asserts that their antics of
late have more to do with Eddie's estate, at which point Vicki changes
the subject and reveals that Chavo will challenge for the US title at
Survivor Series. As memory serves, in WCW, Eddie held that title on a
couple of occasions, even feuding with Benoit at one point.

Benoit brings up a key plot point. Let's suppose that Eddie divided his
estate among his family, as well as Rey Mysterio and Benoit, his
closest friends. That would be the real reason why Chavo is angry and
has convinced Vicki to take his side. Vicki looks so bloated, to
mistake her for a floatation device wouldn't be out of the question.

2. Matt Hardy & Jimmy W. Yang def. Sylvan Grenier & Gregory Helms.
Called this one. Diva Search runner-up Amy debuted last week as Yang's
valet (and would be girlfriend), and JW officially introduces her in a
inset promo. Good match, and it shoud've gotten the crowd back into it
after the travesty of the previous match. Grenier mocked Hardy at one
point, and paid for it when Yang hit a spin kick, then hot tagged to
Hardy. Grenier tagged Helms at the same time. Yang got rid of Syl with
a corkscrew leg lariat plancha. Hardy hit a Twist of Fate off the top
(think Diamond Dallas Page's Diamond Death Cutter) to finish off Helms.

Ken Kennedy issued a challenge to Undertaker on WWE.com earlier this
week. He baited UT to come down to the ring, and when the Deadman did,
Kennedy beat him senseless with his old school mic. Taker got tangled
in the cord at one point, and was left a bloodied mess. Well, we know
who's going over in the rematch at Survivor Series, don't we, kidz?

3. Non-title: Chris Benoit def. KC James. As usual, JBL lusts after
Michelle McCool, and insinuates that Michael Cole (who happens to be
married, same as JBL) doesn't like women, still teasing him for
admitting he (Cole) spent some downtime slamming down some brewskis
with Vito. Michelle does exactly nothing. The "Teacher's Pets" have had
their push cut off at the nubs, as James is all but squashed. No sign
of "Idol" Stevens. James taps out to the crossface, and that's that. No
run-in from El Chavito Greedo.

4. Boogeyman def. TJ Dalton. El squashola. OVW prospect Dalton was
called up for this spot, but maybe someone should've warned him that
consuming worms might be hazardous to one's health.

Backstage, Mike Mizanin is yapping with some shlep (hey, doesn't he
look like Big Dick Johnson?) when Kristal Marshall shows up. Miz claims
last week was a misunderstanding. The truth is, he's a craven coward at
heart, which makes him a perfect partner for Montel Porter. Mizizzle is
challenging Boogey for next week, which has JBL questioning whether or
not Boogey can actually clear customs. Speaking of the Most Vain
Poseur, he gets up in Teddy's area complaining about last week's tag
match vs. Kane & Undertaker. More nonsense about his contract. Teddy
has a preview copy of the "See No Evil" DVD. Maybe he should've invited
Porter to stick around and watch, because Porter faces Kane in a
streetfight next week. Let's see him weasel out of that one.

5. David Batista def. David "Fit" Finlay. This was about what you'd
expect, but it took up the last quarter of the show! It would've been a
total squash, except that the only way Finlay got an advantage was when
Little Bastard showed up and smacked Bats with his own shilleleagh, and
Finlay targeted the injured area for the rest of the match. Bats has
suddenly shaved his head. What's up with that? Did he get the number of
Val Venis' barber? Anyway, Booker comes back out, hoping to taunt Bats,
but no go. Instead, he tries to run in, but Finlay crashes into him,
and Batista hits the spinebuster to win it. The King is SO going down
at Survivor Series.

Batista will guest star on "Smallville" on Thursday, which will give me
something to watch before TNA Impact comes on. He's playing a monster
that escaped from the Phantom Zone. This should be interesting.

Starting December 1, I may be taking some Friday nights off, not even
bothering to tape, as the Continental Basketball Association, a
once-proud league, begins play. The Albany Patroons begin their 2nd
season since reviving last year, and my girlfriend and I will be going
to the home opener on 12/1. We went to a few games last season, and
were entertained. I'm looking for someone to fill in for me on those
weeks, to give Adam some company in doing reviews. On those nights, I
don't even want to think about wrestling, which is why I won't tape.

1. Is it me, or is the "everbody's a racist" thing being used a LOT lately?
Shelton Benjamin's certainly playing the card over on RAW.

2. JBL's comments remind me of what Mohammed Hassan tried pulling off when
he was traded to Smackdown. He went into how "bad Arab Americans have had it
in this country." May be true in itself, but Booker T. and Teddy Long were
also in the ring, both of whom, not coincidently enough, are BLACK!!!!!

3. Why did they have this match (or any title match, for that matter). Given
Long's announcement that Bats would get a title shot at Survivor Series, did
ANYBODY seriously think Lashley was walking out with the title. When I know
the outcome of the match before the bell even rings, then you know
Uncreative isn't doing their job by a longshot.

Interesting you bring up the Eddie thing. I was reading a wrestling mag
recently where they had Turkeys of the Year. McMahon made the list for,
among other things, milking the Eddie's death. They were harsher that I even
was.

Hey, I'd be the SECOND guy to cheer da King's losing the title, but as I've
said before, I'm done with predicting what Uncreative will do.

In a nutshell, Ben, Uncreative works backwards in booking matches way
too much. New head booker Michael Hayes is no help at all.

Must've been PWI, and they'd be right to give McMoron a Turnbuckle
Turkey award.

Because they don't know what they'll do themselves on a given day.

I thought Long spent more time out there than Booker did without him.
His promo wasn't really drawn out at all, and I liked the Alexander
reference (as ridiculous as it sounded in his accent).

If JBL were forced to be consistent and sensible with his commentary, he
wouldn't be half as entertaining. Would you have wanted Heenan or
Ventura to not show bias or make irrational claims in their announcing?

> Booker cheats to win again, rolling

I don't get hung up on these finishes as much as you do, but I agree
this is a match Booker should have won clean. Someone must really want
Lashley protected, because I can't see him as championship material for
a long while.

That can get old just as quickly, though. I hated when Regal was using
the knucks every week for like half a year, especially since he could
have been fighting (and winning) straight up.

(On another note, 30+ years ago I was not even a zygote. Old man!)

If all it's explaining is Chavo's anger, that's one thing. But it
sounded like Benoit was suspicious about some action being taken
regarding the estate *now*, a year after Eddie's death. Did his will
stipulate that Rey had to be actively wrestling to claim his inheritance
or something?

I don't disagree, but that seemed an oddly petty comment in the above
paragraph.

It's funny how they're only doing those promos with Yang. I guess it's
a nod to the old-schoolness of his character.

Kennedy loses a hard-fought match, continues to be furious about being
stuck on Smackdown, and goes on to win the Royal Rumble and jump to Raw
(as JLB predicted).

If only Kane would remove his eyeballs and impale him on a hook.

I suppose we should start watching Kurt Angle on TNA for signs of hair
growth, in accordance with the Angle-Batista Law of Follicular Conservation.

That's the point. If JBL were to accuse somebody of racism
legitimately, it wouldn't fit his character. The fact that he's calling
racism between people of the same race is classic heel behavior. Tell
me you couldn't picture Jesse Ventura making the same illogical claim.

I saw that magazine in the supermarket. The other main reason they gave
Vince the "award" was for his mockery of God in the HBK feud.
Personally, I loved that. I laughed my ass off when he did the HHH
water-spitting thing with the holy water. But religious loons are
notoriously humorless, and if HBK (whose beliefs are well documented)
was fine with doing the angle then no one should have had anything to
complain about.

Didn't seem that way to me, and Booker's Alexander reference was a bit
of a reach, considering he really hasn't earned his title as "Champion
of Champions".

If JBL could actually write his own commentary, or ad lib at the very
least, he'd be twice as entertaining. Heenan & Ventura's pro-heel
commentary made more sense because they avoided the outrageous more
often than not.

Not for at least another year or two, IMPO.

Oh, how we both ripped into that gimmick. Nearly five years have passed
since he got those knux, and Uncreative is still inept, if not worse!

I wish I knew, but let's see how long it takes for this plot device to
be fumbled by the cast of idiots.

Think, Adam. If you still had a Jericho or Rock on the roster, you'd
almost certainly get a line like that out of them.

Testing the waters, methinks. Maybe they'll do this with others as time
passes.

Maybe, but they'd need to have enough depth on the roster to allow for
Kennedy to be moved, and right now, do they really have that depth?
Mysterio is on the DL, replaced by Kane. Dave Taylor came out of
retirement 2 weeks, and now he's out. Then there's the case of moving
Khali, Davari, Turkay, & Burke to ECW, thinning out the roster even
further.

Last I checked, Kurt still has the Daddy Warbucks look going.

So did I and IAWTP. They can laugh at everyone except
themselves.

I remember numerous occasions where Monsoon would get exasperated with
them. "Will you stop!!" was practically a catchphrase for him. Anyway,
I think JBL gets to ad lib plenty. The Lawleresque drooling after
Michelle and Kristal are probably office-mandated, but the rest sounds
like him.

I don't think they'd bother, since Vicki isn't presenting herself as a
hottie like (for example) Stephanie used to. I imagine they'd just
react in a sort of "why are you here again?" sort of way.

Tatanka can fill the vacancy on the heel side wihle Chavo moves up in
the ranks with his US title feud. They could also move someone else
over from Raw (when is Val Venis due back?), or bring up someone new.

Unfortunately, yes. Thank FSM I didn't pay for it.

Monsoon used that line more on Heenan to the point where it became a
standard comedy bit because Heenan was going off on tangents in his
commentary.

I'm thinking they may send Val to ECW instead, and maybe another callup
from OVW or Deep South might be the answer.

They should dump the bimbo and move Yang back to Raw so he
can be with Mickie.
